Permaculture at Sandy Bar Ranch

Permaculture ("Permanent Agriculture" or "Permanent Culture") is whole systems design philosophy and approach rooted in the ethics of caring for the Earth and all its inhabitants. Permaculture is a linking discipline, a way of understanding, that guides choices and decisions in an appropriate manner according to each unique situation. Permaculture designs are a synthesis of ancient traditions, appropriate technologies, and an enlivened connection with nature.

Using permaculture as a base, Sandy Bar advocates and develops skills and model rural enterprises that support alternatives to unsustainable resource extraction in Pacific Northwest forests.

The Permaculture Project is developing the Sandy Bar site as a harmonious integration of landscape, people and appropriate technologies, providing for food, shelter, energy and other needs in a sustainable way. Through our work exchange program we offer training in Permaculture design and techniques.
