2008 Calendar of Events

Each year we offer a variety of classes and workshops.  We provide shared lodging in our four cabins on the Klamath River, along with outrageous vegetarian meals prepared from local organic produce.  Please pre-register for all workshops.  We offer reduced rates for local residents and partial work trade positions for certain workshops.

May

Bigfoot Birding Days:

May 9th 7:30 PM  - Keith Slausen will present an amazing slideshow featuring photos of local migratory birds accompanied by the bird calls.  A Selection of local entries from the Godwit Days Student Bird Art Contest will be posted for viewing
May 10th 7:30 am - Local experts Keith Slauson,  and Tom Leskiw, will lead a birding expedition around the Orleans area.  Learn to identify both local residents and seasonal migrants by sight and sound.  Binoculars, comfortable clothes, and a bag lunch recommended.

June 12-15th: Klamath River Spring Guitar & MandoJam 2008

Mandojam LogoA three day music camp with acoustic workshops, jams, and fun in the sun on the Klamath River in Northern California.  Access to swimming, rafting, hiking, and more.  Come learn & play music in a supportive environment and a beautiful setting!

 All levels of players are welcome!!!

All acoustic string instruments are welcome!!!!

June 12-15 - Guitar-MandoJam begins Thursday evening, June 12 with a 6 PM potluck and goes until Sunday brunch, June 15. Cost $150/person, includes lodging (hostel style lodging in cabins and camping) 1 group meal/day (participants responsible for other meals) and all workshops and jam circles.

November

November 20-23rd: Fall Mushroom Retreat

A three day gathering of mushroom enthusiasts who will come together to hunt, identify, cook, and preserve wild edible mushrooms.  Participants of all ages are invited to come and share their fungal knowledge.  Bring your favorite mushroom recipes, stories, and experience.  The weekend will include various field trips, identifications sessions,  preservation techniques, great meals, a mushroom cookoff, and an evening of mycological theatre.  This is an educational and festive event for fungal fanatics of all ages, inclinations, and persuasions!

Where: Sandy Bar Ranch, Orleans, California (this region is home to more than one thousand varieties of mushrooms!)  

When: Thursday night (Nov 15th) will be a potluck dinner and slideshow.  Friday and Saturday will consist of field trips until the mid-afternoon.  Afternoons will be devoted to identification and setting up the ID Table led by our friends Wendell Wood and Alan Braun.  Friday evening will be the Fungal Feasts cook off.  Saturday evening will be the Free Expression Mycological Theater - an evening of creativity, spontaneity and hilarity in ode to our fungal allies....not to be missed!

Cost: $200, includes shared lodging and one meal per day.



December

Saturday December 13th  11-4pm: The 14th annual San Francisco Wreath Sale and Open House
Dried Flower Wreaths, Pepper Wreaths, Beeswax Candles and more!  Please call for details. 

Monday December 15th:  Evergreen wreath making classes in Menlo Park.  Learn to make traditional wreaths from evergreen boughs and berries.  They will brighten up your home for the holidays and make great gifts!  Please call for details.
