Low Carbon Vacations

Here are a few things we're doing to help make your vacation more green and our business more environmentally friendly:

Recycling - We recycle everything possible, cans, bottles, paper, plastic etc.

Composting - Kitchen scraps and organic waste go to our compost pile to feed our organic gardens rather than going to the landfill.

Solar Power - We have a 4.5 KW solar photovoltaic array that generates virtually all electricity used by the cabins during the summer months.   (Our electricity is regular 120V AC, same as any typical home).

Water Conservation - We conserve water by irrigating with drip irrigation systems on timers.  By increasing efficiency and minimizing our use we help to conserve the water in our rivers that is so essential to our salmon and steelhead runs.

Evaporative Coolers - The evaporative coolers ("swamp coolers") that we use in our cabins consume about one third the electricity of air conditioners and use no Freon or other harmful greenhouse gases.

Natural Building - On the ranch you'll find examples of cordwood construction, cob, light straw clay and natural earth  plasters, all examples of non-toxic natural building techniques that use less energy, utilize local resources and are completely biodegradable.

Watershed Restoration - Owners Blythe Reis and Mark DuPont are founding members of the Mid-Klamath Watershed Council.  As board members we take an active role in local watershed restoration and community development.

Organic Gardens and affordable vacation spot on Klamath River

On the Ranch...

Most folks find there's plenty to do right here on the ranch, whether it's swimming at our private, sandy beach, exploring the garden or relaxing on the cabin deck with a good book.    Here's
what you'll find on the ranch:

Organic Gardens - We have nearly 2 acres of organic gardens under cultivation, with over 100 varieties of fruit & nut trees, berries, vegetables and flowers.  We grow much of our own food and fresh organic produce is available seasonally (check with us to find out what's ripe).  Raspberries are free for the picking and a big hit with berry lovers of all ages.   We have goats and chickens as well, and the morning milking is a big attraction with kids.

Farm Fresh Organic Produce
Farm Fresh Produce
is available from June through the fall, feel free to contact us to find out what's in season.

Swimming - Our private, sandy beach is just a stones throw from the cabins.  "The Rock" is a large outcrop located on the opposite bank of our swimming hole, where Pearch creek meets the Klamath River.  It's a favorite destination on a warm, sunny day.

Fishing - The Klamath offers world-class steelhead fishing, and our stretch of river bar is ideal for fly, lure or bait fishing.
In sharp contrast to the "shoulder to shoulder" experience of the river mouth, seasoned anglers will be refreshed to find entire sections of the Mid-Klamath River to themselves, and it's a great area for beginners as the chances are high of hooking fish. You can fish fromthe bank, just below our cabins, choose several nearby river access points, or take a drift boat tour.

Crafts - A variety of crafts are for sale, including beeswax candles, salves, tinctures, dried flower wreaths, garlic braids and dried fruit, all grown and/ or produced right here on the ranch.

WiFi - You can set up on the cabana or in the shade on the lawn and access the Internet on your own laptop.

Weekly Tours - We offer weekly tours for those interested in learning more about our Permaculture homestead.  Tours last 60 to 90 minutes and can be tailored to participant's specific interests.  Topics include Permaculture design, organic gardens, solar energy,  alternative building techniques, and cultural and natural history of the area.
